The Marc Ecko Watch line has had a lot of success with its "Legends"
line of character clocks. These clocks feature 3-D caricatures of
Hip-Hop legends such as Flavor Flav, Biz Markie and MC Serch.
Based upon this success, Brand Manager Stephen Scholz wanted
to produce a bobble head figurine of a company executive to distribute
among the firm's business partners.
I was asked to design the doll, an artist in Hong Kong produced the
sculpture based upon my specs. I also produced the packaging,
which seems to be inspired by the type of stuff one would find
on a box of children's super-sugary breakfast cereal.
Following the positive response to the original "Johnny Marvelous" doll,
a follow up "Johnny Swiss" figurine was conceived. Again I produced
the original drawings. This time we added some friends for Johnny, though
ultimately, these were never manufactured.
Stephen Scholz and I wrote an accompanying comic, rife with
low-brow scatology. I illustrated the script and a limited number of
copies were produced.
It was a fun project to be involved in, and since it is a lifelong dream
of mine to design action figures, my jones was somewhat satiated.
