Star wars is a cultural phenomenon, and during the years since its
creation it has become nearly as ubiquitous on our planet
as
Mickey Mouse.
2007 marked the 30th anniversary of the original film. Coinciding with
this event, the Marc Ecko Cut & Sew brand of clothing launched a
Star Wars themed line of clothes.
The Ecko watch brand hoped also to produce a Star Wars themed
watch. I was commissioned to produce the concept drawings for this
watch. I set to work researching the existing Star Wars watches already
on the market. I found most of these watches to be highly uninspired,
little more than a boilerplate watch with some Star Wars motif slapped
on the face or the band.
After discussing the project with brand manager Stephen Scholz, we
decided to create a watch that transcended the usual level of
Star Wars licensed watches. From the packaging to the watch itself,
we wanted to produce something that looked as if it could have
been taken directly out of the Star Wars universe, a watch that
would not look out of place if it were worn by the movies' characters
themselves.
In the end, I feel we achieved this goal. I am quite happy with the
final drawings I produced.
I hope you like them too. |
